The Jaguar S-type compared to the MkII

Interior The Mk II dash on the left set the theme for the "Jaguar look" which endured from the introduction of the Mk II in 1959 including the first series  of XJ6. It was not changed significantly until the XJ6 series 2 in 1974. The S-type on the right used more wood, as befitted its more upmarket image.

Styling Although both cars were similar, especially at the front, there are numerous detail differences. The most obvious external differences are at the rear. The S-Type is 7 inches longer, and has a much larger boot/trunk and rear window than the Mk II. The roofline at the rear is higher and flatter to give more rear headroom. At the front, although both cars look similar at first glance there are detail differences - the S-Types headlights and foglights are inset into the panel work, while the Mk II's protude, and the headlights have normal trim rings. The sidelamps and turn signals are also different, and placed differently.

Slim line bumpers are fitted, as later fitted to the 240/340, and they wrap around at the rear. The S-Type has no rear wheel spats, and the wheel arch is not round, but flattened.
